deviantART v4 is dedicated to our beloved senior members, in celebration of deviantART's 4th birthday. For you we build tools, with you we change the world!


One exact year after the launch of v3, v4 delivers some of the punch you've been missing. But first lets take a moment to reminisce:

One year ago, the deviantART community received an average of 2.6 million page views per day.
Today we average 8.2 million!

One year ago, deviantART had just reached 2 million submissions of art.
Today we have surpassed 7 million and counting. (Seen dynamically on the front page!)

Four years ago, we made a promise to our senior members that we would build a community that would inspire artists and pave new roads for an entire generation of creators.
Today we promise to deliver. Today marks the beginning of a new ERA for the artist, and deviantART will bring you there.

Those who were lucky enough to have been here in the magical days of deviantART v1 remember the feeling of a small, robust community full of skill, creativity and love. With the massive growth of deviantART this love has been partially lost in the rampage of growth. deviantART v4 (Fournando) is the virus that attacks the heart of this problem with the following features:


deviantART Chat (BETA) - Powered by dAmn

Created by the brilliant mind of Andrew McCann mccann (founder/creator of the Sonique MP3 Player) the deviantART Messaging Network (dAmn) has been used (for starters) to run deviantART Chat - a fully dynamic chat environment modeled after Internet Relay Chat (IRC), requiring no plug-ins (Just Windows, a current browser and Flash 5 or above) that is native to HTML. This means you can easily share art, movies, websites, music utilizing EMBED, IFRAME and much more!

Be the founder of your own chat room, invite your favorite artists and friends, customize your settings and feel the feeling of a small, cozy community once more!

Honorable plug for spot who saw this one coming from far away & even code named it "dAmn" almost a year ago.

Note: dAmn is in BETA - this means it is not complete, it is not 100% stable and it is not fully tested! dAmn v1 is coming soon we are actively developing. You may notice intentional disconnections and other such things, but your rooms and your settings will always be saved.


deviantART v4 skin & Navigation - Powered by the King of Spain

Designed by the infamous pachunka (with slight inspiration for initial design from yours truly and help from jark), the v4 skin has been crafted for fast browsing, ease of use and pure community sex appeal. pachunka has worked his fingers to the bone, from two countries, wirelessly in cars & boats, endlessly clicking away at the near perfection that is this skin. Every detail and aspect has been thought out to it's fullest; and what is missing is "just still being built."

Without pach, who passed out on his keyboard just four hours ago and woke up to put in some final touches, v4 would not have been possible.


Redesigned Message Center

Tabbed, for your pleasure. The new deviantWATCH provides the newest and most advanced mechanism ever created to keep you in the center of your very own devious universe. Messages, deviantWATCH and Notes have been merged in to one central location along with deviantART Announcements to keep you up to date on all happenings.

Respect to iMike for implementation of my design and jark for his help in fixing my flaws. About iMike - It is a pleasure to finally work together, it was something we've always wanted to see happen and deviantART is very fortunate to have his talent. Journal & Groups Phase II mananged by jark will take deviantART to all new heights, enabling artists and art groups to make deviantART a permanent home.
