I'd like to start by explaining that here at deviantART we do take issues of stalking, harassment and abuse very seriously.
However, having stated that I also need to point out that not everything which is reported to staff as "harassment" is actually considered severe enough for us to do something about it.
In previous years staff would respond to all sorts of complaints concerning harassment, insults, and other abuses regardless of the severity; however as the site grew larger and the community more diverse this became counter-productive and time consuming as the issues which were reported to us gradually became more and more minor and in some cases downright ridiculously petty.
At this point in deviantART history, early in 2006, we introduced the tools for hiding comments and blocking other users from interacting on your personal account pages. It was also at this time

1. What is going on with Volunteers?
Glad you asked! Since it's inception, the volunteer program has never been revitalized to be more consistent with a growing community
CEA Update 20080910 Proper Harassment Reporting<a href=”http://news.deviantart.com/article/40242/”>Much earlier in the year I previously discussed what sort of issues constitute what we consider to be cases of serious harassment and this week I would like to once again discuss this subject as well as the proper method of reporting cases of harassment to the staff.
If you believe you are being harassed there are a few steps which you need to take prior to trying to acquire help, these steps will make the process of getting help a faster and hopefully more satisfying process.
The first step before seeking help is to actually, objectively look at the situation and ask yourself if you are truly being harassed or if you are merely being annoyed or bothered..
This step is important because the staff will only intervene in situations which involve what we consider to be actual harassment and you will not receive assistance for situations involving simple rude behavior, arguments, annoyances or other thin

As 2008 comes to a close, join me in taking a walk down memory lane as we recall the deviantART community highlights from the past 12 months.

2008 was a whirlwind of a year with many new features and milestones in the community. We celebrated our 8th, birthday, saw the site move into v6, and embraced the long awaited new message centre. Moderation reporting got a whole lot sexier and
Effective awareness raising on dAWe've all came across something in life that we feel is unfair, or unjust. Sometimes it's spawned by reading a book, watching a documentary or movie. Sometimes it's driven by personal experience or observation. Many of us, as artists and community activists will feel so passionate about something that we feel the need to express it via our channels of creativity, and of course, share it here on deviantART.
This article intends to provide you with a guide of how to do this in the most effective way, without breaking policy on deviantART.
First of all, you'll want to make sure that you have a balanced understanding of the subject which you wish to raise awareness of. State your facts in a balanced manner, present statistics and cite where you got these statistics from. Key point: You'll get more respect by citing resources which are neutral and which are not affiliated with a specific terrorist group, religious party, or any other element which may be biased within your agenda. CEA Update 20090120: Moderation System ChangesThose who have been with us throughout 2008 and longer and who regularly follow the news and site changes should remember that during the early months of 2008 the system which the community uses to report cases of theft, unacceptable content and other issues involving deviations underwent a complete overhaul and rebuild in order better serve the needs of both the community and the staff.
We like to believe that our reporting system here at deviantART represents one of the best and easiest to use systems available to an artistic community and we are proud to see that the deviantART community demonstrates such awareness for artists rights that it is used with great frequency to report cases of copyright infringement, unauthorized use and just plain old blatant theft.
It’s no secret that because our community strives so diligently in this area that the reports often become backlogged which forces the staff to attempt to handle them in an order or priority rather than a first-reported

deviantART and Global Giving have joined together to make a Valentine's Day where you can not only give art to those who you love, but you can also give support to PH15, a photography project based in Argentina that encourages social inclusion by educating, inspiring and empowering young people through art.
