There are a number of trends I'm amused by at deviantART.
Search for draw this again and you see a meme where deviants are showing their progress through the years. Examples:
Then there's a trend on YouTube where deviants are posting video blogs about their deviantART experiences. I recently caught this one by DomieNeek that I was charmed by. She makes great points, too!
In November we published a Journal on dt's Blog, very discreetly announcing that we've launched a set of API's (Application Programming Interfaces) so that developers out there could make Apps for deviantART.
Even though this was whispered, we're seeing these Apps get some traction. Perhaps it's time to be less discreet.
Speaking of dAmn, I noticed that Artgerm has a new chatroom that he hangs out in on there called #Artgermination - I've been hanging out in there a bit lately.
I''m slowly easing myself back into deviantART lately, been working hard, and saw this as one of the first things in my Inbox. I just looked back on my gallery and just had a moment of pure horror and then inspiration. I'm in the middle of yet another art block so I'm going to redraw everything in my gallery. And do it properly this time, following anatomy tutorials and stuff. This is why I love DeviantART and missed it so much over the passed two years.
The trend of "draw this again" is truly amazing; it's very interesting how the artist stile evolves you can keep watching the progress from one draw with the other for minutes.
And about the trend in youtube I didn't like it; because I feel like is a bunch of complains. It's true that any sm or site is perfect, but if you think you can make a bigger list of things you don't like form other sm like facebook or twitter [I can't stand the bugs form twitter for example] but you have to get the best form each sm or site and communicate all the problems with the admins or the people that is in charge. I really like this place.
Hello. This account is a group of everyday individuals who have one goal: try to get everyone to have points. YOU can help us achieve this goal by donating to our cause so we may give to people less fortunate than us. We urge these kind and generous people to donate even a little to our cause. Part of the money even goes to charity to research for cancer and other fatal diseases. I hope all of you could help even by advertising us just a little, maybe by putting a link to us in the description or even telling your friends. Remember, everybody on deviantART deserves some points either expert artist or amateur.
I've done the draw it again meme before! I still can't believe I improved so much in one stinkin' year xDD
And oh my gosh, I really hope dA releases an app for mobile devices! I don't have a tablet that lets me do digital art on my computer, I use my iPad and Sketchbook Pro. Even with my traditional drawings, it takes a long time for me to take a picture of it, email it to myself, then open it on my computer. The thing I'm really hoping for if dA makes an app is that we can upload stuff from our cellphones. But... there is the trolls that might upload crap from their phones, so...
I agree with the previous commentator on this thread that said dA should look into developing their own browser specifically for viewing digital media on phones.
Then all the apps could be extensions of the browser eventually.
Also maybe dA could look into sending out a newsletter via email - updating developers and other interested parties about the status of existing projects, what has stagnated so that people can revive those projects and what has already been done so that developers don't reinvent the wheel.
Microsoft sends out about three newsletters weekly via email to the MCPs, updating everybody about the latest projects, developer tools, express edition versions of certain tools, programming languages that Microsoft is using for the various projects etc.
So maybe dA could start doing something similar for the dA developers, every two weeks send out a newsletter updating people about the progress of the developer projects, news about latest developments and mobile apps, the specific programming languages needed for certain projects and the site updates affecting the developer section specifically.
There should be a place - either a group - or somewhere on the dA main page where developers and other interested people could sign up for the dA technology newsletter.
dA needs to build native mobile applications alongside a mobile web interface.
The platforms they should be hitting are iOS, Android and Windows Phone. These are the key players in the market and dA should of had apps on them years ago. But in this case they are only looking into it I feel.
The iPad is a perfect platform for dA, I would love to be able to flick through the latest photos on dA with gestures and such.
I suggest following #dt, thats about the closest you will get to a developers mailing list.
I agree with you about building applications alongside a specific interface. As for following dt, it seems like a great group but maybe one day dA can get one of the community volunteers to start compiling a newsletter, since the developers themselves are busy coding, so someone else needs to come along and put all the news and updates together.
- like the latest news section regarding your apps and other apps for dA - developer tools - programming languages - existing projects - any IT conferences developers or dA members attended on behalf of dA and what the news was from there - the specifically mobile section
In the recent MCP daily flash newsletter we received links from Microsoft regarding a free e-book they are currently offering called "Learning more about Programming with Windows Phone 7"
So dA maybe can think of doing something similar and calling the newsletter dA BOLT or something - the tagline would be: once every two weeks this electronic bullet filled with IT news, shoots through our circuits, delivering a burst of creativity and dA developer updates.
She says hate is too strong a word.....and then she uses repeatedly......her opinions are interesting ones, but she doesn't really allow room for other peoples opinions. Just because people make groups to hate on FICTIONAL CHARACTERS -stressing the fictional here XD - she doesn't think it should be allowed......who cares, they're fictional, people don't like it -get use to it, the world is filled with people you're not fond of and likewise you're going to be one of the people someone isn't found of either. I don't particularly like her "I'm like all like that like srsly" personality I find it to be very immature and I got sick of listening to her 2:15 into the vid, but then I was curious as to what else she had to say. As I said before, her opinions are interesting ones -some I agree on and others not so much because of contradiction/hypocrisy - a valued opinion nonetheless ^w^
Ah, a good old-fashioned YouTube rant. Been a while since I've seen one of those. For some reason, I think a "20 things I hate about deviantART" sounds like something `DoItForTheLulz would have done a while back.
I do love the draw this again meme. It's one of the memes that's actually really helpful and encouraging. Just redrawing something that you once were proud of and seeing that you improved beyond that is a really hopeful sight for artists, especially those who have been doubting themselves. I'm definitely planning on doing one soon.
nice but the original dA mobile version is glitched/bugged-and i know its not my device and no its not a bad item its a PSP for crying out loud this thing is bulelt proof since i got it 3years ago man so don't tell me its my settings or my catch. Problem with the mobile version: when click on a journal it shows it on the original deviantART version not mobile where it trans ports yu to their mobile page so you can't comment on it because there is no "add comment" button shown on the journals.
i love the "draw this again" meme but some people kinda "cheat" in my opinion, by making the second picture have all these added shiny colors, background, etc that weren't in the first picture. XD that doesn't show improvement, that shows that you just added more stuff ^____^UU
As adorable as Domi is, I do have one bone of contention with her use of the word "hate" in referencing what she may actually perceive as "disliking" about dA. Domi says in the video that "hate" is a strong word that alleged "troll" groups use to create dArama on the site, so perhaps she should consider redoing the video replacing the word "hate" with the word "dislike", so the wordage doesn't come off as contrary to her core belief that hate is, indeed, a very strong word.
=domienikki08 presents true points in her video. However, I wouldn't call it, "Things I hate about deviantART" but rather "Things I hate about many of deviantART's users" since she didn't criticize the site itself.
=Pickley is great developer. He works hard to make his apps as smooth as possible (which is greatly seen in dAmn Mobile 2). I use all three of his iOS apps and I believe that they are a magnificent way to access the site.
(Maybe deviantART and =Pickley can collaborate to make a deviantART browsing app. )
