I'm really tired of only being able to submit one jpg in to a deviation. My art is often an adventure and the art is in the adventure.  :5moremins: by Synfull

deviantART doesn't allow me to publish that. Sticky Note by BoffinbraiN

That's an easy thing to fix, technically. It just has big implications. But I think we should just do it and see what happens.  Shit hits the fan REVAMPED by Tryer1234

How?

It would mean that you could publish things made in Stash Writer as deviations. Which breaks the promise that when you click a deviation, all that results is a deviation. It could be an entire publication, like techgnotic's articles.

We're pussy footing around this change within the company, and today while attempting to publish my art work for the fifth time lately I've just effing had it. I haven't posted to deviantART since the summer because of this.

And my current gallery? It's a sham compared to the work I've been doing the past few years with my art. I just have a hard time publishing it here. It's time for change.

Sta.sh and Sta.sh Writer are close to being clean, strong, independent products. Sta.sh is huge already, set to be a top 500 web property by itself by early next year. If you get wind of what's being released on it next week or the following you'll begin to see it's over-9000 ultra mega power. I already have access to the magic and it's changed the way I look at my creative and publishing process.

So, strap yourself in for a troll rampage until we get this squared away but I'm ready for galleries to contain truly rich media deviations.

Hm. Sounds interesting my friend... one thing that's always bothered me though is people without a subscription get effin nothing compared to those who do. Some of us cannot afford a subscription etc.
What can be done about that?

Ooh, so that is your long-term goal. So until we get there to that capability of blowing people away even more than we already are, we have to deal with *ahemclunky* user interface problems. I remember some "feedback" thing for the "new submit page", sponsored by Stash. The link is here: [link] (And please take note of all the comments down beneath the article.) Apparently, we're not going back to the old way, despite popular opinion.

Just going to the "Submit Art" thing at the top, I don't see the grand vision you have in store...not yet, anyway. That means, unfortunately, I don't see your "over-9000 ultra mega power", but instead a major disadvantage and discouragement (or is that part of your high-friction scheme of filtering quality?).

But my question is, just from flipping through Daily Deviations alone (never mind all the others that can compete with them), how is it possible that things aren't rich enough already?!

Reminds me of Pixiv's stack options and Behance's system to show the project. Would be interesting to see what you are releasing to form an opinion.

This instantly reminded me of Behance and the way they allow you to upload and show multiple images on one long scroll so you can show every aspect of a project instead one piece at a time or bunched into one giant image like we've had to do here up until this point. I'm glad we're going at least somewhere towards that direction.

Now that I've seen the example, I stand by the idea that it should be a third category taking into consideration the 'series' aspect. While you could do something like this in a a gallery folder, you lose the ability to view all images at once along with the text. But at the same time, I like knowing that what I'm getting is a single piece of art or a journal about someone's experiences and those are not the same thing.

Collecting art is an art.
Maybe have 'mini portfolio sets' become deviations? I mean for the portfolio system you display certain collections of art to desired employers... it could simply be the case for deviants.

That sounds a bit tricky, to me and mildly taboo - I feel that journals have a certain, established difference, in comparison to deviations.
What if, for example, I used the journal framework to link to a series of other people's deviations, using them to build a new, unique story, that would be unrelated to the... journalism, so to speak... that journals pretty much revolve around?
What sort of category would that fall in?
Would there be any issues regarding the arbitrary use of others' works?
How far could that go, how rich could it get? (we also have media such as Flash and Films, or the occasional Youtube embedding; speaking of which, by the way, music/audio -an old and, in my opinion, a rather prominent form of art, which has gained new, I dare say unique, branches throughout time, especially since the invention of the radio- is missing on dA, as a category of its own, which feels slightly odd, given we have Film and that dA's origins involve Winamp skinning) Should there be any guidelines or limits?

Someone doing a specific bit of art doesn't mean everyone has to.
Journals already can do a lot of what was asked. I don't see what's the point of adding them as deviations.
Someone not happy? Hey, it's a big world and not everyone needs to be in the same groove.
Juss sayin...

Actually, it would be very nice to put several photos into a single deviation. It's kind of annoying having to plaster a bunch of them together into one long picture, but being able to put together a sort of journal-like deviation with several pictures inside (that's what you're talking about, right?) sounds like a fabulous idea.

So basically it would be like a feature Journal of your own work but you would be able to submit it to the Art Gallery instead of the Journal Gallery? (And you wouldn't flood the gallery with tons of images)
Like this: [link] it would be posted in the gallery like a "normal" deviation (in this case in scraps)

Did you know that even if you delete a picture it'll still be on your profile, only it's hidden from you. My friend :capn-gary: told me about this. He foundout about it when he got a comment on a picture he had deleted years ago. DA however, still had it on file.

I'm kinda confused as to what you're describing. Do you mean putting images together as 1 piece? Or being able to do something like an e-magazine? Honestly, I stopped writing newsletters because I still can't get around the merge with journals, I'd love to have them as something separate- and if they could be done like some of the staff ones for EVERYONE that would be awesome.
But I don't see it filling a big hole in the community, or in the market by the way you're describing. I think I need a clearer example.

I honestly never use stash. I don't find any reason to. It's like this whole extra thing to learn to do something only mildly different.

Wanna help create art on DA and make money? Make something like muro, for photo editing. Like Picasa or picmonkey etc where people can have an affordable way to edit images right on the site, with extra paid for settings and tools. These sites that exist for photo editing are being built into a lot of main stream media and social networking sites. I personally enjoy using them because they're quick, easy, and free. Especially with the rise of things like instagram... anyway, I'd see something like that as more valuable a tool. Not just because a work mostly in photography- but I think it would help a lot of people get into photography and photo editing just like muro got people into digital art.

Well it's better than screwing with the current system.

If you are gonna allow multiple deviations make it more of a collection or stack rather than just a journal with items.

So, You guys are just trolling us with some of these updates over the past long months on here? :hmm:
For example, Sta.sh, the over sized deviations I see when browsing for art... removing the news and updating it with faving and using journals and Sta.sh instead. ...:noes:
There could be more, I don't know about.
I don't really use Sta.sh. I believe I only have one file in there and that's because I uploaded it before Sta.sh existed.

Also, why is there a dot in the middle of "Sta.sh" and..didn't you say something against posting a lot of images at once in the interview with that guy in the other last journal?

I can't even.. :iconlolwutplz:

because that's the full URL. type in "sta.sh" in to your address bar. hehe I love that url.

I did say this, but this isn't posting lots of Deviations at once, it's placing lots of images in to one deviation.

The core argument is not to make publishing to deviantART too easy, or else you become a photo dump. Which is not the intent of deviantART. Permitting richer publications actually fits quite evenly with this philosophy, as it technically increases the work going in to 1 deviation... this keeps the quality up on the whole compared to most networks. Certainly all other networks at this scale.

But, what good will that do, if it looks like a TOTAL MESS?
The problems are with the SIZE OF THE IMAGES in the journal, it's too large and it goes over the border. It's too huge to see the whole thing making the journal a waste of time, cause "AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FO DAT". For example, this image of your profile with the journal with the photos. [link] See, how on the right side it takes up almost half of the page and the WHOLE JOURNAL. THAT'S WHAT I MEAN. NO bueno.
Who's gonna click on each image individually and wait for it to load? Not me.
I'm also already frustrated with Sta.sh, I don't need another thing added to the list. :hmm: There's also bugs with the journals...BUGS.

In conclusion, I don't believe this idea is a bright thing to do just because it's all confusing and it's going to look sloppy lookin'. Don't make something people didn't ask for, and deal with what you already have. Like, fix and update things that need to be fixed and "stahp" adding more stuff that we don't really need and want. It's really fudging up my experience on here.

:icontophatplz:
:icongo-on-plz::iconsaysplz:Off topic...Who came up with the idea of St.ash and who designed it? Why did you believe that it was gonna be a big smashing hit on deviantART?

:iconsmashingplz: I say!...well not really.

I'd be happy just to see more than a single image in a deviation if an artists would prefer to do that instead of posting one deviation per image. However we go about it, multi-whatever or rich media deviations are what a lot of people want and we can give it to them in a way or another.

Thanks, it works now. So now I can say something about the idea itself. I think it could be a nice thing unless as someone mentioned above people would upload the whole m emory card at once. And it could be tricky if one of the pieces had mature content and other pieces didn't. Speaking of which, I think the owners of stocks with poses would love that idea, they often upload a full 360 set around the model.
