Description
Nature has it's way of reminding you of the rules. This Pale Swallowtail butterfly was perhaps the first I'd seen up close since last spring/summer and so it gave off that excitement of something brilliantly interesting? It sat on the fig tree just five feet from my office/guest house.
For months now we've had a blue bird I call "bluebird" flying around scaring all the other birds away from the feeder. Last year bluebird, and I'm convinced it's the same bird, lost his entire family sitting in a nest on this very same fig tree. To a cat that gobbled them up and then jumped the fence if you must know. It was tragic! All I found was a single feather belonging to the mother.
Just seconds after I walked away from snapping this photo, bluebird nipped this butterfly right off the tree in a swoosh. The tail that spruces up at the bottom is the only remain I found... on the grass.. below the tree. Right around where the feather would have been.
