Empik by spyed Empik by spyed
I just liked this photo, the graffiti in the background... walking by it I felt compelled to take a photograph, reviewing it later I felt like submitting it. Not really excited about it, but fun none the less. Especially as an insight in to what Warsaw looks like as you're walking around and turn your head a bit...

cause it's not very pretty. I think Wroclaw is better than Warsaw. And the centre of Cracow. ;DD I'm living in a village and I prefer when there's more green. :)

sorry for my English if it's wrong. ;pp

You know, what's funny in this photo? The sentence on the wall is "Empic - full of culture". In my opinion it looks funny with that gray, dirty wall and with that graffiti and all that stuff around. :XD:

Btw - you shot a part of my elementary school. :D

I see you didn't request a critique but I feel that this shot would gain a lot from a bit of cropping and aligning.

I think that the odd angle that the photo is at makes it hard for the graffiti to shine through like you're wanting - i.e. instead of a window, it's making a sort of blanketing curtain.

And although I feel that you kept it the top margin so large because you wanted to include the 7up sign in the logo, I feel that the overall 'dead' space hurts the feeling you wanted to capture.

Sometimes it's just the small things like lighting or cropping that can change something with potential, yet unlively to something that projects intense intellectualism.

It's our subway, our mayor has asked
to a group of guys to paint them
cause it's too white

I think the slogan adds a quite a bit to the photo. It says "full culture" (it's an idiomatic expression, when someone behaves in a very cultural manner, or some place is culutrally refined, like the opera, or an old mansion).

No oprócz słowa "culutrally" chyba nie mam się do czego przyczepić.

And yeah, if they only bother to read it.

I think I've been doing too much photoshop... The words 'Empik' and ';petna kultura' seriously look photoshopped...

:eyepopping:

Great shot though - nice range of black, whites, and grays, and some great fonts... err, I mean signs... hee hee :D

Glad you're having fun!

I'd love to study other languages, but am hopeless. I have no idea why English is so drummed in to Europeans at school etc. Maybe it's because English is more wide-spread and commonly spoken by more people? I don't know. :P

You've converted it to black and white nicely, with good contrast and deep blacks.

It's a nice composition and its always good to see the contrast of what a city looks like on the outside and how it looks when you look a little closer.

As you say - its not the most mind boggling photo in the world, but the subject matter, composition and tonal ranges are all pretty spot on.

The only thing I could point out is try to avoid little bits sneaking into the frame like at the top. It's something I'm always doing and it's something to watch out for as it distracts (although only a tiny amount) from the rest of the composition
