Caterpillar in Manhattan by spyed Caterpillar in Manhattan by spyed
I'm taking the term "City Life" pretty literally with this, but a Manhattan sidewalk this pretty with a worm that pretty ... is City Life!

I really like this one. I've held on to it a while, but it's time to share.

I like it even more because I remember the rest of this day, how beautiful the city was, the great conversation I had at lunch, and the fulfilling meeting I had after.

This photo is a key to a memory in my brain that brings me happiness.

I love the irony of deviantART, which is a place to share the results of your inner most feelings, for others to interpret them for for their own inner feelings but often not out of the same appreciation with which the art was created.

I'm always inspired by the art for one reason, and my posting of the art and that whole experience for a different reason.

Irony, photos as keys to memories..that says a lot. I've seen to many of these "caterpillars" to count, but I've been calling them by the wrong name ;)

This piece reflects the stark contrast between the man-made and the natural, the real and the ethereal. Even as the sidewalk begins to deteriorate, the caterpillar remains untouched and unaffected. The caterpillar is a testament to nature's innate dominance over the realm of man, a dominance that has been wrongly questioned as of late.

Or at least that's what I'd say if I were an artist!
Awesome shot! :D

Hello spyed, interesting contrast between the bleakness of the road and the stark yellow of the caterpillar. I am glad it brings good memories to you.

Am I the only person to see the rat/mouse outline in the 'stain' above the caterpillar? (left of the dark splat)

I will never forget the day I was walking from one place to another place and got caught by one of the red lights. I was standing there in a crowd of about ten or so people, when all of a sudden this butterfly descended from some unamed place and just started dancing around me. Everyone just backed away and just watched as it circled 5 or 6 times, landed on the end of the bristol board that was poking out of my bag, and then flew away. I was so moved by this bit of nature that had come to me. The light changed and we all walked on as if some secret part of the universe had stopped that little part of the world for our meeting. Your caterpillar reminded me of that moment. It is simply beyond words when such things happen and I feel that they are like gifts. I'm so glad that you had a wonderful day and have a photo saved that brings you back to that place. Thank you so much for sharing it.

I also see this picture as a bird's-eye view of Manhattan, with a giant killer worm crawling and terrorising around. Awesome.

You can imagine it though, can't you?
Some film by The Asylum parodying War of the World's and Bug's Life at the same time, or something.
Still, it's an awesome shot nevertheless. :)
