California Palms: 2 of 3 by spyed California Palms: 2 of 3 by spyed
These palms are right outside of my house here in Hollywood. About a week ago it was raining with full sun out.. it was quite the sight. And around the time the sun was setting there was an odd glow surrounding the palms.. so I thought I'd snap a few. What do you think? I'm no photographer..

Snapped with a Canon G5.

In a way I like how the tree cuts the pic in half. It almost looks like two different pictures on each side. It gives it an interesting feel to it. I still love how the trees look like they are on fire or are glowing embers. Great colors! :D

this is gorgeous, in spite of the tree in the center, which, by the way, doesn't bother me one bit. this photo is so l.a. in the winter: extraordinary, beautiful, and different from everywhere else in the world and the reason we live here. well done.

The tone of this and light is beautiful but it may have looked better if the tree in the foregrounds top hadn't been chopped off - and if it had been more centered. Otherwise the detail and the view are stunning!!

thats pretty cool, might of looked better with the top of the tree in, or from a better angle. Maybe more angled looking upwards.

You should avoid center focal point in a composition. It disrupts the flow of a piece and keeps the eye from looking at the picture in it's entirety. Try a 3/4 composition to start.

I love it! I love it! I love it! The colors are excellent! Did you do any manipulation with this at all? If not that is awsome. I do think it would look a little better with a border through. Other than that, amazing!

i dig the way you caught the light against the darkness in the palms.. gives the sense of impending storms, or perhaps one past...

Somehow, this photo looks really surreal, like it is a fantasy world, not a place that truly excists. Its estranging, but beautiful.

Very nice shot, it's only missing one thing...A border, it gives a photograph a more professional feel towards it anyway, and offers as a buffer for the other colors within, so instead of roaming off the print and away from the eyes, it stays solid within the picture itself, drawing the eye to the most important parts.

A great capture none-the-less. :yum:

Thats an amazing picture! It's rare for people to see such a view and have a camera handy.

I'm awaiting the day to when I can get a picture like that.

I love the dark colors of the sky mixed in with all that orange.
It almost looks like a manip of a picture or something, because it is so beautiful.

I wish we had scenery like that here in Missouri.

Where were you standing? Looks like you were quite high, to get a picture such as this.

Great amount of detail and wonderful highlight on the building just right of the centered palm tree.
Fessor Featured By Owner Mar 9, 2004

it's beautiful. living right near you, i know how eerie california rain can be. there will be the tiniest crack in the clouds, and the light will filter in and light it all up.

This is lovely! The contrasts are great. I love the shadowing in the foreground with the silhouette of the palm, and that firey glow in the background. Beautiful capture.

I don't like how the front palm stands out so abruptly. It's cutting the photo in half, and seperates the extremely glowing building (which celeb lives there I wonder?) from the rest of the photo. Could have been awsome with a bright blue sky. :)

Still, it captures a cool moment as the sun sets, and it does have a wonderful " evening" theme.
alteredreality Featured By Owner Feb 27, 2004
Good composition and shadowing. =)

The lighting must have been almost-perfect. =)
